V. Farrell Thomas July 22nd, 1930 - February 27th, 2016

Grandpa Thomas passed away in the evening on February 27th.
This is my first experience with losing a family member in my adult years.
The last family member that I can remember to pass away was my Grandma Lorraine when I was a little girl.
About a week before he passed, we had a chance to not only say our goodbyes but to be privy to a tremendously sacred blessing Victor gave him. It was peaceful and Victor told his dad it was ok to die. This was the last time we saw him in this life.
Tyler spoke at his funeral and did a very wonderful job. It's weird to think that Tyler is the oldest grandchild and has known Grandpa the longest. He had some fun stories that were touching and funny too.  A Brother I didn't know sang Bring Him Home and it was gorgeous.
I'm glad Grandpa isn't suffering anymore. Glad he has his able mind and body back and can continue the work on the other side. I'm so grateful for the Gospel and the peace it gives in knowing there is life after this and it is not the end. Grandpa was bed ridden and had been on hospice, he was unable to move, speak, etc. The tender mercy of all this is that he passed away in time to be able to attend, in spirit, Sacrament at Lauri and Victor's ward the next day for Victor to be set apart as a member of the Bishopric. He wouldn't have been able to be there if he was still tied to his mortal body. I know he was there, supporting his son.
At the viewing, we had been there for about an hour and hadn't gone to see Grandpa yet but were in the room with the casket. She asked, "What's in the box?" So innocent and what a great opportunity to explain the separation of body and spirit and how we will all be resurrected again someday.

Brynlee took every single color of golf tee they were giving away at the viewing/funeral. This is how she arranged them when she got home.

The services were beautiful and it was neat to be privy to the memorial trumpet for those who served in the military. That was sacred to me.

See you later Grandpa. Looking forward to more golf lessons in Heaven!
