The Third Rescue
Magna Utah Central Stake Trek
July 23rd-26th
The First Rescue is the account of the men who rescued the Martin and Willie handcart companies when they were lost and in dire need. People were dying of starvation and extreme cold.
The Second Rescue is the spiritual rescue of those Saints who died in the Wyoming area. The members of that Stake heeded the call of the souls of those who perished within their Stake boundaries and did their temple work so they could enjoy the blessings for which they gave their lives.
This is the story of our 'Third Rescue'.
Our Stake leaders called this a rescue mission of our youth because, for some of them, this will be the turning point in their lives. Some youth have since decided to be baptized because of this experience, others to serve missions and others simply have started making better every choices due to the intense spiritual whisperings that occurred on this divinely appointment handcart Trek.

One of the top 5 BEST experiences of my entire life!

Day 1 was 10 miles.
They broke us in quick.
We learned you can't run with a handcart or you'll get in trouble or hurt someone.
Pulling a handcart is a lot different than it looks.
Everyone is dirty and no one cares.
Pulling a hand cart on dirt is easier than on grass.
We learned the importance of communication:
Hole middle!
Super important statement.
Last but not least, we learned how to build a tarp shelter that the wind can easily tear down.
We also learned how to build a tarp shelter the wind has a harder time tearing down.

Other than Ty who had massive blisters all over his feet. He got the worst of it out of our family though. Since it was Pioneer day we all celebrated by having a parade, Pioneer games and a hoe down.
Day 3 - Another 10 miles and the Women's Pull
Ty and Cade were taken from our family that morning to represent deceased pioneers from our company. When Ty left first, I struggled really bad. We had been together for the duration of the Trek, never very far away and now he wasn't going to be there with us anymore. I couldn't tell the rest of my family so I'm sure they were all thinking I was just a cry baby. After a hug from a dear friend, we were off and pulled up to the bottom of the mountain we were to climb that day. 12 people out of 250 were taken from us to represent angels. I was asked to share my feelings and it was rough to get through but I learned some very important lessons that day.
It was so hard to pull those hand carts! It was even more difficult to watch the men with their somber faces, unable to help.

Day 3 The Women's Pull was .8 of a mile. The hill was called Kristie's Kid Killer for a reason.

Hayden watching his Mama do the Women's Pull. 4 of our 5 Trek sons had their real moms on Trek with us. They had the opportunity to watch their Mom's do hard things and I think it really pierced their hearts.

Eden, Me and Marie After the Women's Pull These two sweet 12 year olds came and found me after the Women's Pull and wrapped me up in their arms crying, "We did it! We did it!" This, right here, is a moment I will never forget!
Day 3 - we got smart and started talking our shoes off.

Our lives have forever been changed.
Even though Ty was practically singing and dancing on our last hill before we got to the busses, I know that he had a testimony building experience as well.
He spoke in Sacrament the day after we returned home and as he got a bit choked up I know he really did take something away from this.
On our way home to showers, beds, chairs/tables and normal clothes.

Mess kits, wipes, tarps, cow pies, holes, sunscreen, watermelon Jolly Ranchers, aprons, shoe goo, beef jerky, camelbaks, dirt, buckets and handcarts.
These are a few of my favorite things...
