Heber Valley Girls Camp
Magna Utah East Stake ~ Spencer 2nd Ward
August 1st - 5th
*~* Mountains to Climb *~*
Mt. Timpanogos
Cute welcome speech from our darling missionaries!
Basically as soon as we got up there we ate, settled in and had to book it up to the Challenge Course which took most of the remaining daylight hours. It was cool to watch the girls do things that were out of their comfort zones, work together and rely on each other. I had the object retrieval station and it was interesting to watch them all pull together, use their brains and figure out how to get the 'poison antidote from the middle of the pit of snakes'.
There was a giant swing they let us do. I love stuff like this.
Day one complete. Sunset after a fun luau with everything Hawaiian including the decor, dancing and food.
Day 2 festivities included our lip sync battles.
Our Stake Leaders are so awesome. We all wanted them to do an encore and they obliged.
Our karaoke song was Katy Perry's Firework and we had inflatable guitars, bubble microphones and starbursts to throw in to the crowd at the end. It was a blast and I sure enjoyed seeing some of those girls come out of their comfort zones and rock it!
Day 3 - Wednesday
Service never tasted so good! Chicken Salad good!
After our tasty lunch, myself, the 4th, 5th and 6th year girls all packed up and headed out for our overnighter. 3 girls from my ward got to go and I was stoked for this. New things all around. Never packed in and out for a hike, never slept under the stars on the ground (no tent). I thoroughly enjoyed it.
We almost got lost on the hike and I am so glad someone came back to find us.
Saw this on our way in on the overnighter. I've never seen one like this out in the wild before.
The evening was beautiful. New games like signs and bunny bunny. During the signs game I got so into it that a girl and I totally fell over and I got some minor injuries, bruise on my hip/leg and a cut on my forearm/elbow. It was hilariously entertaining for everyone!
Amongst the fun and games we had a very spiritual testimony, fireside devotional that evening. Never before have I been privy to such an open discussion about hard things girls go through in such a big group.
Before bed we did a Night Sky activity where we all snuggled up in our own sleeping bags, gazed at the gorgeous array of stars & constellations and listened to a mix of President Uchtdorf's Happily Ever After talk, music and Sister Oscarson's talk of what we believe as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was beautiful and I bawled like a baby except I tried to keep the sobbing to a minimum.
They woke us up before the crack of dawn to do a little hike up to an overlook to watch the sunrise. It was magnificently beautiful and I was once again in awe of the simple yet deep beauty of this world.
The Sunrise devo & overlook.
Sarah Hunger and Chloee Archibald (Sarah McFarland had to be taken back to camp shortly after we arrived the evening prior and we missed her). In the one picture, if you look closely, we are framing our mountain. Mt. Timpanogos. It's the mountain we picked to go along with the theme.
I'm so lucky to be their leader!
I didn't want to take this backpack off. It was so comfortable I could've carried it for another day.
Day 4 - Thursday
Service project day &
Sister Oscarson
Yes I know these are creepy stalker-ish pictures but I was kind of star struck at first.
It's so cool to have gotten to meet her and get a hug from her.
She spoke about taking the road less traveled and what being a disciple of Christ means/is.
Day 5 - Friday & going home
Find all three deer. Our morning devotional and introduction of our flag.
Like last year, I had to leave a tad early to get to work. Not working for an entire week is crazy for me.
I felt like Girls Camp threw up in my front room. It took me forever to get it all out of there and in its rightful place. I also took a picture of all our goodies. Pillow treats, our pins & lanyard, handouts, super hero headband, etc.
The Real Spencer 2nd Ward ;)
This was most of us. The best I could get.
