An idea starts out as being just that... a thought.
A creative thought that sounds like a great thing to do...right?
This is our back yard at the beginning of spring time.
Tyler had this amazing idea.
Since Brynlee's swing set died because it was so old and rusted, he decided WE were going to build her a playhouse.
But it couldn't be just any ordinary playhouse.
No, it needed its very own deck, with a slide and a sandbox.
So, here goes...
It needed a good strong foundation.
3ft steel spikes would do.
It needed to be tall enough so the kids could mostly stand under it and be comfortable.
The support beams had to be as close as necessary so it would be sturdy.
Look how proud he is.
Before and after staining.
Needs to be weather resistant.
The top deck - before and after staining.
Must have a ladder.
Toby isn't afraid to jump off it either.
Next comes the play house itself.
In the middle of this step, we decided it would be a fantastic idea to make the garden bigger.
So we did and we finally filled in that spot in the middle of the yard where we had, earlier in the year, busted up a concrete slab.
Yep, that was fun.
Then it needed railings. Then we stained
said railings.
Then we added the slide and dug down underneath the deck for the sandbox.
Next was the sand box and adding the pavers in front to clean it up.
Ever had a Dirt Bag delivered to your house?
Those things are huge and we ordered a bit too much but it was still cheaper than buying it at a local store or wherever.
The sand was the last step. Except for taking a picture and the irony is that after all of this work, we can't seem to find a picture of the final masterpiece. Of course I could go outside and take a picture but that would be too easy. We finished this just in time for Brynlee's birthday. Started in April and ended in August.
Besides the playhouse and making the vegetable garden bigger, we decided to give a couple of our flower gardens a makeover as well. The back garden we mostly just needed to add the pavers but the front flower garden we did pavers and plants, built up the dirt plus added the little back drop trellis to help with the heat.
Seriously I don't know what we were thinking doing all of this but it has all turned out fabulously.
Glad it's over. I love it!
