Happy First Day of Kindergarten

This girl went to Kindergarten today at Pleasant Green Elementary.
We moved into our home when she was 18 months old and since that time has always watched the kids playing out at recess.
Now it's FINALLY her turn!
Other than not wanting to play with the kids on the playground she did fabulously.
Of course I had to choke back tears when she walked into class right behind her teacher, Mrs. Rosevear.
Ty gave her a sweet blessing last night and blessed her with an eagerness to learn and the courage to make friends. She had previously told us she was excited to learn new things but that she was nervous about her classmates. (Possible symptoms of being an only child?)
As is tradition, she wanted to wear a t-shirt, hand me down chucks and the typical pony tail to begin the year, of course I obliged.
We made arrangements so I could drop her off and Dad would pick her up so one of us was with her on her first day, before and after school.

When I asked her about her favorite part of the day she said, " following the clues to find the gingerbread man." She couldn't tell me what she learned but she really likes her teacher.

So off she went, to start the ritual of school everyday for the next decade and more.
At her assessment I was really blown away by what she knows already and how confident she is with that knowledge.

And here I am, choking back tears because this is another milestone that I'm so glad has happened but am sad to see pass by us because it's one more step to her needing me less and less. That's the point though right? Teaching our kids to be independent, confident, courageous and willing to try new things. Hopefully it's a small testament we are doing something right.
